First Reading

Hi dear students.

I've seen your introductions. I really liked  you wrote them in English. The first assignment is to visit  The Metropolitan Museum Of Art site. Read everything about Van Gogh using the reading strategies you have learned. Comment in the blog about the information you read.

Good Luck! =)

  1. the text was easy to understand, only that it was a bit repetitive in most cases, once the information, I think that was impressive to do more than 1,100 drawings, too, that had the support of his brother Theo.
something interesting is that he drew what he saw, as in his earlier work that showed dark oppressed people of the city and Dutch farmers at work.

Impressionism influenced him when he was in Paris, was the more I identify them.
Reading technique I used was the scanning, since there were many words I know its meaning.

  3. Hi!
    Good night!
I really liked what I read about the Van Gogh's life.
Van Gogh was a pintor and artist extraordinary
    He loved art.
He used all the techniques of drawing, the differents influences prints is apparent in the works he made
He traveled a lot, the landscapes were his inspiration.
He produced nearly 900 paintings and more than 1,100 works on paper. Ironically, in 1890, he modestly assessed his artistic legacy as "of very secondary importance."

    Zaira:
Reading technique I used the scanning, connecting words and referents.
    I used a dictionary.
    Greetings

  16. I really liked the Van Gogh biography because it tells about the life of him, I especially like it in Paris.

It was the first to the innovations of impressionism and neoimpressionismo with broken brushwork techniques and small strokes of pure color, also is important for modern art, really very interesting techniques and the saddest of her biography is how he died because he committed suicide with a bullet in the chest.

Reading can be analyzed by means of references and the union of words, as also the use of the dictionary.

  21. Hello,

First of all I can say that this site was very interesting not only by this information, but also by all the paintings and expositions they offer. Before I read the text, I supposed it was related to Van Gogh´s life and artistic paintings. Some strategy skills I used while reading the text was skimming, a fast reading that should introduce me to what the text was talking about, and also I searched for words or phrases that I didn´t understand, so I look for the context, by synonyms and looking in the dictionary for this words.

Talking about the text, I can say that it was gorgeous and interesting, because I learned new informative life aspects I didn´t know about Van Gogh´s life. Van Gogh was an innovating artist for his time, although he copies some Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist artists, his painting style was unique and was considered later as vanguard artist, his self-taught style was impressive because nobody else did what he realized, nowadays his artistic paintings are exposed in various countries.

I really liked this text because it show us some of his highlighting career and interesting information about his life, I think it was a terrific text that I would recommend to everybody, for having some culture and an enjoyable productive time.

  23. I really don't like Van Gogh, the Neo-impressionist is not my prefered genere, of course he had skills but i prefer other artists, he is some of the reasons i like Holland, produce 900 paintings is not easy, but impressive in just 37 years, the museum seems interesting but they don't really have a good collection of this artist, the page is not the best i've seen and the information is repetitive so here i had to use some strategies ive learned.

  25. THE HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF HALLOWEEN

    Origins

What we know today as Halloween or Halloween are celebrated more than 3000 years ago by the Celts, a warrior people who lived in areas of Ireland, England, Scotland and France. Precisely on 31 October, the Celts celebrated the end of the year with Samhain, a pagan holiday. European immigration to the United States, mainly of Irish Catholics in 1846, the tradition of Halloween came to America.
    Who were the Celts?
They came originally from Asia to form the trunk, as a member of Indo-Germanic people, who settled in western Europe in the twentieth century BC and inhabited the central and northern Europe. For the year 1000 BCE spread throughout the British Isles, northern France, part of Switzerland and northern Italy. Invaded Spain in the ninth century BCE Their language was Indo-European, which is a few literary records.
For the fourth century BCE were displaced from central and northern Europe as a result of the arrival of other peoples, Germanic groups.

    WHAT IS HALLOWEEN?

When Emperor Constantine decreed that the inhabitants of his empire to convert to Christianity, many pagan rituals were introduced. That was how the festival of Samhain infiltrated.

By the eighth century, the Christian Church became the 1st of November at the All Saints Day to honor all the saints who did not have a particular day of celebration. Over the years these festivals combined, and most called 'All Hallowmas "(the mass of all the saints, holy people) at All Saints' Day. The night before became known as "All Hallows Eve" (Eve of All Saints Day). Over time, his name became Halloween.
The custom of trick or treating from door to door (trick-or-treating) became popular around 1930. It is believed, does not go back to Celtic culture it derives from a practice that emerged in Europe during the ninth century souling call, a kind of service for the souls.
While many religious people think that this festival is done with the purpose to worship the devil or demons, the truth is that it has become a fun date for the child.
In general it is a tradition in the U.S. more important in that country

Finally the conclusion will be no one to take as an insult to Christianity and there will be others who see it as an opportunity to go trick-healthy with their kids and share with them.
